Our Friend Si Bouziane

He is the third member of a well-known trio: the brothers Mazaka, Jghnin, and Bouziane.

I first met Si Bouziane in 1977. It was during the parliamentary elections in which I was running as a candidate for the Party of Progress and Socialism in a constituency that stretched from Aïn Sfa to Tafoughalt, including Eklim, the outskirts of Berkane, Zegzel, Madagh, La Rékada, Aghbal, Saïdia, and finally Ahfir.

It was truly a remarkable and unique experience for its time and under the prevailing circumstances. It enabled me to build strong and lasting friendships that have withstood the storms of time and the challenges of life.

Among those friendships stands our exemplary friend, Si Bouziane, who at the time was the head of the party branch in Ahfir. He was full of energy and enthusiasm, never hesitating to devote himself fully to political activism and selfless service. He owned a Renault 4, which he generously placed at the party’s disposal for its activities, without expecting anything in return.

He was deeply committed to both political and trade union activism, to the extent that he sometimes seemed to forget his own family and even himself.

I have always known him to possess qualities that never left him throughout his life: simplicity, generosity, readiness to volunteer, and a constant willingness to lend a helping hand in political, social, sporting, and community activities.

I later learned that he had come to Ahfir from the region of La Rékada, where he was born, at the beginning of the 1960s when he was appointed as a primary school teacher. That was nearly half a century ago.

Since joining the Party of Progress and Socialism, he has never been known to abandon his convictions or consider moving to another political organization, despite the difficult circumstances the party often faced.

His reputation is widely recognized for its integrity, honesty, and dignity in all fields, whether professional, political, trade union, or community-based.

Si Bouziane consistently took part in electoral contests, either as a candidate or as a supporter of candidates who shared his beliefs and convictions. He always did so with fairness, decency, tolerance, and a spirit of honorable competition. However, electoral success did not come his way, for politics follows its own logic, rules, and conditions that not everyone is willing or able to embrace.

Congratulations to our friend and comrade Bouziane for his exemplary life and honorable reputation. May he enjoy his retirement in peace, contentment, and serenity, even though the spirit of commitment and activism in all walks of life never truly rests.
